Thoughts on Black & White 2 (Sort of)
And by thoughts, I mean speculation, because the only things we’ve seen so far were Kyurem’s new forms and the title of the games. I can’t complain because we know nothing about how Game Freak is handling this. There’s not enough information to form an opinion, so for those people that are throwing a hissy fit and jumping to conclusions about how much the game will suck, the Sonic 4 boycott group is that way ——->
We have no idea whether or not these are basically going to be the deluxe version split into two, or a whole new region/adventure, but with no new Pokémon. This is quite a tradition-breaker, so a new adventure could be a possibility. Personally, I think it’ll just be Gray split into two versions mainly because it’s coming to the DS, and not the 3DS. From what I know, you can’t copy/paste stuff from the DS to the 3DS, you have to rebuild everything using the 3DS engine building thing or whatever I don’t work for Nintendo I don’t know.
I’m sure N’s gonna have more character development and story, so this’ll be a must-buy for the fangirls who want to grope Mr. Gropius. Maybe he might play around with his golden Rubik’s Cube, too. Again, we know nothing, we just have to wait.
Though there is one bad thing that could come out of this: Version exclusive move tutors. If there are no new Pokémon, then there is no reason to own all four version. If you already have Black and White (like me), you’ll only need one of the two, BUT, if there’s version exclusive move tutors, you’re either out of luck, or are a bit crazy and will buy both versions. Luckily, I have friends IRL that play Pokémon, so it’s not much of a concern for me since I’ll have someone with the opposite version, but for those who don’t have anyone in real life to play Pokémon with, if this does happen, consider it an infomercial for Pokémon Online, or start making Wi-Fi buddies.
Lastly, regarding Kyurem’s new forms, I think they look pretty cool. Pretty much what I expected if it only had one new form, actually. ”BUUUUHHH BUT MR. NICOCW!!! THEY LOOK LIKE DIGIMON!!! AND THAT MEANS THEY DON’T LOOK LIKE POKEMON AND THEREFORE THE GAMES ARE BAD, MWEEEAAHH!!!! YOU’RE WROOOONG, POKEMON SHOULD GO BACK TO THE GOOD OL’ DAYS MAKING EVERY POKEMON LOOK LIKE ELECTRODE AND MR. MIME, YOU’RE STUPID NICOCW, GO SHOVE YOUR HEAD UP A VILEPLUME’S ASS, BLEAAAAHHHH!!!!!” Who cares if they look like Digimon? That doesn’t automatically make them look terrible, and their designs obviously won’t make the gameplay any worse just because you don’t like them.
So in conclusion, I can complain about something, but it’s so minor and pretty much doesn’t matter: the names. I would’ve like Pokémon DeepBlack and VastWhite, but whatever. Same with Kyurem’s form names, which are the Black form and the White form. It’s a racist Photoshop project waiting to happen, but on the bright side, Kyurem will probably be a lot more usable in competitive battling, because the thing has a lower base stat total than Reshiram and Zekrom, and a pretty bad defensive typing. Whatever happens, I’m looking forward to how Game Freak is going to play this out.
